Can you hang Mariachi Groups and Bands in Tucson Arizona?
Secular music:
Fiestas, Weddings, Quinceneras, Birthdays and Anniversaries. We have learned a massive repertory of different artists such as (not limited to):
[table “” not found /]Last time we approximated the number songs we know we counted about 2000 + songs. Our group, our mariachi band Mariachi Alegre has a lot of experience and an extensive repertoire (as stated).
A very large repertoire is needed when playing mariachi music for a party of Mexicans. This Mexican audience will test your extensive knowledge. The litmus test is the percentage of songs that can be played. This Mexican crowd can be satisfied with a mariachi playing 85% of the songs requested. This musical knowledge is important in that that is what is required to satisfy this particular ethnicity. When satisfied Mexicans will recommend you by word of mouth advertising!!
When booking parties where requests are predominant I always emphasize the amount of experience and repertoire that our group maintains is more than satisfactory.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Juvenile mariachi bands and other less experience mariachi bands will know approx. 35-120 songs. These songs may include some of your guest requests but probably not.
Most of the harder requests are the older mariachi rancheras and corridos. This is buried material that the mariachi band teachers do not show the juvenile groups because they probably do not know this repertoire either. This hidden material is picked up only by playing for a while-more than 15 years: also learned by on the job training with older and more seasoned mariachi bands.
Note: Masses are described in other sections of this website
We all can satisfy many other types of parties.
We have an extensive selection of well recognized songs requested by Anglo mariachi music enthusiasts.
We have played in many Mexican restaurants throughout the Southwest. We have over 30 yrs. experience playing in restaurants and resorts: (La Paloma, El Conquistador, Westward Look, Ventana Canyon, Starr Pass Resort, Agua Linda Ranch, Rio Rico, Kino Springs, etc… We have serenaded people at their tables as well as played on stage with microphones in concert mode. We are very comfortable in either scenario.
Our group was part of Mariachi Internacional America de Gilberto Velez. This mariachi was the premiere group in Tucson during the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. We traveled extensively throughout United States playing concerts in all types of venues such as the Milwaukee Summerfest, Indianapolis State Fair, Milwaukee Folk Festival, Topeka Fair and other assorted fairs and concert halls. This group has also played in the Edinburgh Festival (world renown). Here in Edinburgh we rented a concert hall and sold tickets to daily concerts featuring our group. The Edinburgh Festival Committee created a new division of music judging for mariachi music. We were awarded top prize with many accolades. We played mariachi music on the BBC and were featured on the local and nationwide BBC TV stations.
In 1985 Gilbert and other investors bought an old Shakey’s Restaurant: renovated and created El Mariachi Restaurant.
At our restaurant we learned the craft of showmanship and stage presence. We played live stage shows (mini concerts) with a state of art sound system. We played at this restaurant over 17 yrs. It was with great reluctance that we sold the restaurant in 2002.
